Seventeen-year-old Isis worries about three things. First, her overbearing mother who tries to control her every move. Second, the bad dreams, which keep coming true. And third the strange things that she makes happen when she loses control and the accompanying headaches. Still Isis is so close to graduation she thinks she’ll be able to make it to freedom and a fresh start far away from her mother.
A class project shouldn’t undo the carefully concocted façade that Isis has set up, but when she uses her powers to save herself and Dane from a freak explosion, Isis’ world begins to crumble around her. Instead of revealing to the world her unusual powers and ending her chance to escape, Dane offers a way out of the mess she’s in.
Dane understands the things that are happening to her. He belongs to a secret magical society that trains people to control their powers before the powers have a chance to destroy them. Isis figures the choice to join is simple until her cousin Kalli confesses that she belongs to a different society. Now Isis is torn between both groups.
Isis' dreams are getting worse, and through them she knows one of the groups is planning a huge terrorist attack. Isis needs to figure out which side is telling her the truth and then use her powers to stop the attack. Either way she’s going to lose someone, her cousin Kalli, who is also her best friend, or Dane, who is quickly becoming more than just a class project partner.

The plot is interesting and solid. I would have, however, liked to know a bit more about the backgrounds of the two factions. I ended the book feeling as though I was missing something vital to the series.The characterizations were good. I certainly was invested in Isis, Dane, and Kalli. Jed, although a late entry, is the one I most look forward to learning about.
Overall, a nice start to what I hope is a satisfying series. Looking forward to more....

This was an interesting story. There was some violence and language, though, at the end of the book. I will still probably read the next book when it comes out. I just hope it doesn't get *more* violent as some sequels do. I did like the heroine and hero of the book a lot.
I don't read a lot of YA fantasy, but I am so glad that I read this one! The fantasy elements are interesting and develop well as the plot progresses, but are really secondary (for me anyway) to the excellent storytelling. The overall theme of "free will" vs. "compulsion by force" is thought provoking and well explored. I was really engaged in Isis's struggle! I can't wait to read more in this series!
For a first time author, this is a riveting story and I can't wait for the sequel.
Dreaming Isis is a fast paced read that keeps the reader begging for more! The chemistry between Isis and Dane is palpable. Isis and her mothers relationship struggles are relate-able for most people. I loved her inner struggles of trying to stay true to who she is while struggle with the friendships she has around her. I can't wait for the sequel!
