Ed has done it again!! This series just gets better and better and the interplay between Dante and Blays is superb. Best dynamic duo maybe ever. I was very happy to hear there will be at least 2 more books in the series. If you haven't read these before do yourself a favor go back and get the White Tree and start from the beginning, you'll be glad you did!!
I enjoyed this book very much, the suspense worked well, the narration was fantastic and really contributed to the enjoyment for me. I thought this book would be the last one in the series, but no, there are two more to come says the author. Not sure if they are published yet, I need to look around!
As a rule. I don't particularly like series. I prefer my books to be complete. But Robertson breaks rules for me. His characters are people with flaws and virtues. You really can't predict what will happen in one of his books.
Outstanding book! Cannot wait for the next one. The author does a very good job of "painting" the landscape, the ins and outs of each character and how they look at life, their situation at hand and how they deal with it in their own way. Highly recommend not only this book, but the entire series!
This book was an amazing read! I couldnt put it down. As Dante and Blaze make theire way through the world battling for the sake of justice and goodness they are twsted time and time again. The tenacity they share is nothing short of AMAZING. The cycle of Galand is one of my favorite series. In the world of darker fantasy these books stand out not only with the authers ability to convey you to his world but also his ability to bring you into the hearts of his characters. Cant wait for more. Ed has already got my money!
It is a pleasure that Edward keeps surprising me book after book and keeps me yearning for the next.
I love the fact that there are no "absolutes". Life isn't black and white and we usually judge things from our own subjective perspective.
Edward shows us that it is so and his characters must shift their views and beliefs based on what's revealed to them.
They are not unyielding idealistic characters but flesh and blood.
This provides us with much better understanding of their motives even if we don't always agree with them.
The book is a combination of the study of the arcane alongside the study of human nature.
A true delight!

Great entry to the series but suffers one big flaw which I hope to be rectified in the next book. For some reason, everyone in Galand's group of mis-adventurers suffer from a severe case of sardonic mockery. The banter between Dante and Blays is easily one of the most enjoyable parts of the series but what if everyone suddenly started doing the same? And sometimes, the author forgets to mentions who said what and you're left wondering who was that, and then basically think "Anyone of them could've said that" based on what you've understood from the characters.
But still this is a must buy, just to read Dante and Blays going into deep trouble with humorous banter along the way. Better yet, listen to it with Tim Gerard Reynolds narrating it.
Edward managed to maintain a level of world building here that is light but engrossing. I'd like to compare to the Star Wars, whose lore is based on Rebels, the Empire and the Force, which is as simple as it gets (Disney Canon). I was hoping for a conclusion as I cannot stand to wait for the next books.
