Private Detective Bob Roosevelt is tired of crime, frustrated about not finding the love of his life, and sick of his snide guardian angel. He decides he will head to the mountains of Colorado and go fishing. His guardian angel tells Roosevlet he would be better off forgetting clean air, pine trees, and a beautiful stream and head to the seedy bars of Denver. Never one to take good advice Roosevelt goes fishing. But what does he catch? Not a trout begging to be fried in bacon greese but a naked lady with a hole in her head. Crooked cops, cowboys that forgot the cowboy good guy code, and a murder that spans from Texas to Colorado. A funny romp through the absurd world we live in and a who done it that will leave you scratching your head until the last page. That is unless you are one of those people that read the last page first.

Trout Fishing For Bodies Book 2 Bob Roosevelt Mystery Series eBook Robert Swisher

Try to imagine the book that would be written by a brain that partakes of Louis L’Amour, Richard Brautigan and Elmore Leonard, and you will have some idea of the playful mayhem that Robert K. Swisher, Jr. has unleashed upon the world in his Bob Roosevelt Mystery Series of which Trout Fishing For Bodies is a part. His quirky and endearing main character, Bob Roosevelt, is an old (pushing 62) hippie and Vietnam vet, who is attracted to women but will not sleep with one he does not love. He has a Guardian Angel (a monk from the Middle Ages who wears a robe and little else) and who sort of protects, or at least warns Bob, although he is often unheeded. This imp also tries to convince Bob to seduce every young thing he sees, and he and Roosevelt carry on a repartee of insults throughout the book. The book opens with Roosevelt’s discovery of the naked body of a beautiful girl in a stream while fishing for trout. There begins a series of adventures and misadventures as suspects are paraded across the pages, and Swisher keeps the reader guessing as to which of them the murderer might be. And while the reader is guessing, he is also often laughing out loud at the descriptions and the dialogue. The ending is a surprise, but very gratifying at the same time. It restores order to Roosevelt’s world and sets the reader up for the next part of this exhilarating series.

Trout Fishing For Bodies Book 2 Bob Roosevelt Mystery Series eBook Robert Swisher Reviews

This book was ok but a bit slow and repetitive.
The first book in this series had me getting book 2 as soon as I finished it. So far I'm really enjoying this series. His guardian angel is a hoot. What an ingenuous way to add inner struggles and spice. Highly recommend Mr. Swishes book. Fast read, entertaining, and quite clever.
Robert has created interesting cast of characters. I liked the idea of a Guardian Angel which only helped Bob when he listened to the advice it gave which half the time he didn't. Bob gets into quite a few scrapes because of his flawed thinking. All in all an enjoyable read.

This book picked right up where Bucket Full of Lies left off with Bob Roosevelt on to another intriguing mystery. Swisher writes in a very conversational manner and makes the reader feel like they are a part of the actual story. Bits and pieces of philosophy are intermixed within the story that make for a very enjoyable and fun read. Bob Roosevelt is a very likable and admirable character that you would enjoy living next door.
I really enjoyed this book. Pea Brain strikes again with his humor as Roosevelt adds clues to his spiral bound notebook. As the clues grow so does he confusion on "Who dun it" but as always with a lot of thinking, escapes attempted on his life, and dodging an attractive woman who might be the killer, Roosevelt comes up with the One who dun it.

What I also found enjoyable is that the author threw some irony of "writing rules" into play. If you are familiar with the what not to do list in writing then you will recognize two specific spots that I am referring to.

This is a fun murder mystery and I highly recommend it.
A guardian angel that is a monk from the dark ages is my favorite character in this original novel. He is a lascivious drunkard who may or may not want to help the main character Bob Roosevelt. This novel made me laugh out loud several times! This is a story of a middle aged detective trying to find peace in his life. Unfortunately, he seems to have a knack for finding dead bodies.

It is a nice change to have a main character who is not young, gorgeous, and vacuous. I could see myself sitting down with Bob Roosevelt, having a beer, and discussing the meaning of life. The plot of this murder mystery is engaging and clever. I will continue to read the rest of author Robert Swisher's books.
The sheer uniqueness of this murder mystery had me hooked from the first page. I don’t have much time to read, and I would find myself saying “ok, I can read for an hour” and then two hours later I had to force myself to put this book down. The main character, Bob, is so relatable to an everyday man stubborn, cocky and unwilling to allow fear to show through his rugged exterior that you can’t help but love him. The supporting character, his guardian angel (who possesses many qualities that have you wondering how he got that position in the first place), adds a great sense of comic relief throughout the story.

The plot is well developed and keeps you questioning who to trust, and who not to. The personalities fit right in with the location of the story, and the descriptive details of everything (including what Ann wears each time she enters a room), work to play a movie out in my head. This author has a wonderful gift for writing, and I hope to be able to read more of his books in the future. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends and family.
